The Metals:

 

Gold gained $26.34 to $1156.44 by late morning in New York before it edged back lower in afternoon trade, but it still ended with a gain of 2.02%.  Silver rose to as high as $15.189 and ended with a gain of 2.3%.

 

Euro gold rose to about €1027, platinum gained $23 to $952, and copper climbed slightly to about $2.31.

 

Gold and silver equities rose throughout most of trade and ended with about 7% gains.

Oil rose about 1% as the U.S. dollar index fell again in further reaction to yesterday’s comments from ECB President Mario Draghi.

 

Treasuries saw decent gains as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P dropped on worries over sluggish global growth.

 

Among the big names making news in the market today were Monsanto, Glencore, VW, and Caterpillar.
