The Metals:
Gold popped up to $1177.24 at about 9AM EST before it dropped back down to $1169.36 in the next couple of hours of trade and then bounced back higher into early afternoon, but it then drifted back lower again in the last hour of trade and ended with a loss of 0.43%. Silver slipped to as low as $15.761 and ended with a loss of 1.12%.
Euro gold fell to about €1033, platinum lost $6 to $1009, and copper fell 4 cents to about $2.37.
Gold and silver equities saw slight gains about a half hour into trade, but they then fell back off for most of the rest of the day and ended with over 4% losses

Oil fell almost 3% on “slower growth in China and signs that Iranian oil will return to the market soon following implementation of its nuclear deal.”
The U.S. dollar index rose as the euro fell ahead of the week’s ECB meeting.
Treasuries fell as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P edged higher in mixed trade on hopes for better earnings reports later this week.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Valeant, Halliburton, Google, Suncor, Morgan Stanley, and Weight Watchers.
