The Metals:
Gold dipped $2.02 to $1162.58 in Asia before it bounced back to $1168.38 in midmorning New York trade and then fell back off into the close, but it ended with a loss of just 0.08%. Silver rose to as high as $15.983 and ended unchanged on the day.
Euro gold fell to about €1053, platinum lost $5 to $993, and copper climbed slightly to about $2.36.
Gold and silver equities drifted lower for most of the day and ended with about 3% losses.

The U.S. dollar index dropped on poor housing data that sent treasuries higher.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mixed ahead of this week’s fed meeting.
