The Metals:

 

Gold saw decent gains in Asia before it fell back to $1170.42 in London, but it then rose to as high as $1087.18 in New York and ended with a gain of 1.11%.  Silver climbed to as high as $14.412 and ended with a gain of 0.71%.

 

Euro gold rose to about €1008, platinum gained $7 to $853, and copper remained at about $2.08.

 

Gold and silver equities rose over 3% by midday and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Americans' Outlook for Economy Holds Close to a 13-Month Low  Bloomberg

Oil fell as focus returned to ample supplies for the global energy market.

 

The U.S. dollar index dropped markedly and treasuries rose on confidence that any interest rate increases will be gradual and cautious.

 

The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P held near unchanged on uncertainty over the full impacts of rising interest rates, no matter how gradual.

 

Among the big names making news in the market today were Best Buy, Pfizer, Match Group, and Square.
