Gold dipped $6.82 to $1068.58 at about 10AM EST before it bounced back higher in the next couple of hours of trade, but still ended with a loss of 0.45%. Silver dropped down to $14.044 in early New York trade, but it then rallied back higher for most of the rest of trade and ended with a gain of 0.14%.
Euro gold fell to about €1008, platinum gained $1.50 to $840.50, and copper fell slightly to about $2.05.
Gold and silver equities waffled near unchanged and ended slightly lower.

Oil rose after data showed a further drop in the number of U.S. oil rigs.
The U.S. dollar index remained modestly higher after mixed economic data sent treasuries higher.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mostly slightly higher in holiday thinned trade.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Canadian Oil Sands and VW.
