Gold climbed to as high as $1076.85 by early afternoon in New York before it edged back lower, but it still ended with a gain of 0.66%. Silver rose to as high as $14.396 and ended with a gain of 0.35%.
Euro gold rose to about €983, platinum gained $16 to $882, and copper remained at about $2.13.
Gold and silver equities rose over 2% by midday and remained near that level for the rest of trade.
