The Metals:

 

Gold climbed higher throughout most of world trade and ended near its late session high of $1109.90 with a gain of 1.44%.  Silver surged to as high as $14.373 and ended with a gain of 2%.

 

Euro gold rose to about €1015, platinum remained at $876, and coper fell 6 cents to about $2.03.

 

Gold and silver equities saw only modest gains for much of the morning, but they then climbed steadily higher for most of the afternoon and ended roughly 4% higher on the day.

Oil fell along with the U.S. dollar index and treasuries rose again as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P dropped over 2% more on worries about China.

 

Among the big names making news in the market today were Standard Chartered, Yahoo, and Volkswagen.
