Gold gained $21.76 to $1108.96 by early afternoon in New York before it drifted back lower into the close, but it still ended with a gain of 1.29%. Silver rose to as high as $14.194 and ended with a gain of 0.86%.
Euro gold rose to about €1011, platinum lost $5.50 to $821, and copper remained at about $1.98.
Gold and silver equities saw only slight gains for most of the morning, but they then climbed higher in afternoon trade and ended with roughly 3% gains.
Tomorrow brings Initial Jobless Claims and the Philadelphia Fed.

Oil fell almost 7% more after the “International Energy Agency warned that the world could "drown in oversupply" of oil in 2016.”
The U.S. dollar index ended slightly higher in mixed trade.
Treasuries rose as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded markedly lower at times on continued concern about oil, but stocks did reduce some of their losses by the close.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Barclays, IBM, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley.
