The Metals:
Gold fell $5.21 to $1124.39 in Asia, but it then climbed to as high as $1145.44 in afternoon New York trade and ended with a gain of 1.11%. Silver soared to as high as $14.791 and ended with a gain of 2.38%.
Euro gold fell to about €1028, platinum gained $25 to $878, and copper climbed 4 cents to about $2.10.
Gold and silver equities climbed higher throughout most of trade and ended with roughly 7% gains.

Oil jumped 8% higher on word that Russia is still talking to OPEC about possible production cuts.
The U.S. dollar index fell markedly on Dudley’s dovish commentary.
Treasuries fell on relief over oil’s rebound.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mixed as economic worries were offset by strength in the energy sector.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Comcast, GM, IAC, Barclays, and Merck.
