Gold gained $15.25 to $1157.35 by midafternoon in New York before it edged back lower in the last hour of trade, but it still ended with a gain of 1.19%. Silver rose to as high as $14.90 and ended with a gain of 1.43%.
Euro gold rose to about €1031, platinum gained $25 to $903, and copper climbed 3 cents to about $2.13.
Gold and silver equities rose over 6% in the first 45 minutes of trade before they drifted back lower in late trade, but they still ended over 5% higher on the day.

Oil pared yesterday’s 8% gain on uncertainty about future production levels.
The U.S. dollar index fell markedly again and treasuries rose on doubts over more interest rate hikes by the fed.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mixed and ended near unhanged on economic unrest.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Citadel, Kohl’s, Conoco, and Viacom.
