The Metals:
Gold saw almost 1% losses for much of trade in Asia, but it then climbed higher through most of the rest of the day and ended near its midafternoon high of $1200.65 with a gain of 1.41%. Silver surged to as high as $15.453 and ended with a gain of 1.8%.
Euro gold rose above €1063, platinum gained $15 to $924, and copper remained at about $2.09.
Gold and silver equities rose about 5% by midday before they edged back lower in the last couple hours of trade, but they ended with about 4% gains.

Oil fell almost 4% on the lack of progress towards a possible deal to cut production.
The U.S. dollar index dropped as the yen rose along with treasuries on worries about the global economy that sent the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P over 1% lower.
Among the big names making news in the market today were LinkedIn, Chesapeake, Brixmor, Popolare Milano, and Deutsche Bank.
