The Metals:
Gold edged down to $1185.75 in Asia before it chopped up to $1198.93 in early afternoon New York trade, but it then fell back off into the close and ended with a loss of 0.2%. Silver slipped to as low as $15.184 and ended with a loss of 0.52%.
Euro gold fell to about €1052, platinum gained $4.5o to $928.50, and copper fell 5 cents to about $2.04.
Gold and silver equities waffled near unchanged for most of the morning, but they then fell back off in the last few hours of trade and ended with roughly 3% losses.

Oil fell almost 6% after the Energy Information Administration cut its 2016 price forecasts.
The U.S. dollar index fell on continued concerns about the global economy that sent treasuries higher.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P ended slightly lower in mixed trade.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Deutsche Bank, Viacom, and Coca-Cola.
