Gold fell $6.37 to $1181.43 in London, but it then rose to as high as $1197.10 in the last minutes of New York trade and ended with a gain of 0.73%. Silver rose to as high as $15.295 and ended with a gain of 0.33%.
Euro gold rose to about €1059, platinum gained $2.50 to $931, and copper fell slightly to about $2.03.
Gold and silver equities fell nearly 5% in the first 45 minutes of trade, but they then rallied back higher into the close and ended with roughly 2% gains on the day.

Oil fell on continued worries about a global supply glut.
The U.S. dollar index ended slightly lower in mixed trade and treasuries rose on the fed’s plan for a gradual pace of interest rate hikes.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mostly higher but ended mixed on Yellen’s confident economic outlook.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Tesla, Deutsche Bank, Takata, Natixis, and Time Warner.
