The Metals:
Gold fell $21.52 to as low as $1211.48 by late morning in New York before it bounced back higher in early afternoon trade, but it still ended with a loss of 0.71%. Silver slipped to as low as $14.672 and ended with a loss of 2.71%.
Euro gold rose to about €1119, platinum lost $13 to $911, and copper climbed 4 cents to about $2.12.
Gold and silver equities dropped over 3% by late morning before they edged back higher at times, but they still ended with roughly 3% losses.

Oil erased early gains and closed almost 1% lower on end of the week profit taking.
The U.S. dollar index rose while treasuries fell on better than expected economic data.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mixed and ended near unchanged as economic optimism was offset by uncertainty over the oil market.
Among the big names making news in the market Friday were Standard Chartered, Bombardier, State Farm, and Warren Buffett.
