The Metals:
Gold gained $28.66 to $1296.56 by late morning in New York before it edged back lower at times, but it still ended with a gain of 1.97%. Silver rose to as high as $17.951 and ended with a gain of 1.31%.
Euro gold rose to about €1129, platinum gained $25 to $1073, and copper climbed 6 cents to about $2.28.
Gold and silver equities rose throughout most of trade and ended with about 7% gains.

Oil fell on news of rising output out of OPEC, but losses pared after Baker Hughes reported another drop in rigs drilling for crude in the US.
The U.S. dollar index dropped on poor economic data that sent treasuries higher and the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P lower.
Among the big names making news in the market Friday were Valeant, Exxon, Amazon, Apple, and Delta.
