The Metals:

 

Gold gained $12.68 to $1287.08 at about 9AM EST before it chopped back lower at times, but it still ended with a gain of 0.75%.  Silver rose to as high as $17.452 and ended with a gain of 0.69%.

 

Euro gold rose above €1136, platinum lost $0.50 to $987, and copper climbed a couple of cents to about $2.06.

 

Gold and silver equities saw over 2% gains at the open before they fell to see about 1% losses by midafternoon, but they then rallied back higher in the last half hour of trade and ended near unchanged on the day.

Oil fell along with the U.S. dollar index as the yen rose with treasuries while the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P dropped on worries over upcoming central bank meetings and Britain’s vote on European Union membership.

 

Among the big names making news in the market today were Amazon, Apple, and LinkedIn.
