The Metals:
Gold gained $19.18 to $1374.78 in London before it pared back to $1361.11 in midafternoon New York trade, but it then bounced back higher into the close and ended with a gain of 0.62%. Silver rose to as high as $20.474 and ended with a gain of 0.7%.
Euro gold rose to about €1229, platinum gained $12 to $1083, and copper fell a few cents to about $2.16.
Gold and silver equities rose about 3% by midmorning and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Oil erased early losses and closed almost 2% higher on expectations for another drop in inventories in tomorrow’s weekly report.
The U.S. dollar index briefly spiked higher after today’s better than expected ISM Services report, but it then drifted back lower into the close and finished near its low of the session.
Treasuries reversed early gains and ended modestly lower as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P turned morning losses into afternoon gains on the outlook for low interest rates for the foreseeable future.
Among the big names making news in the market today were American Airlines, United Continental, Netflix, Bill Gross, and Tesla.
