Gold gained $13.93 to $1367.23 by late morning in New York before it edged back lower in afternoon trade, but it still ended with a gain of 0.83%. Silver rose to as high as $20.775 and ended with a gain of 0.88%.
Euro gold rose to about €1216, platinum gained $10 to $1164, and copper climbed a penny to about $2.21.
Gold and silver equities rose roughly 2% in the first ninety minutes of trade and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Oil erased early gains and ended over 1% lower again ahead of tomorrow’s supply data.
The U.S. dollar index fell as the yen jumped higher again “after Japan’s government announced 4.6 trillion yen ($45 billion) in extra spending for the current fiscal year,” falling short of what most expected.
Treasuries fell along with the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P on disappointment over Japan’s underwhelming spending package.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Avon, Ford, GM, Honda, Emerson Electric, and Pfizer.
