Gold edged down to $1330.69 in Asia before it popped up to $1342.48 in midmorning New York trade and then drifted back lower into midday, but it still ended with a gain of 0.4%. Silver climbed to as high as $19.874 and ended with a gain of 0.61%.
Euro gold rose above €1206, platinum gained $6 to $1152, and copper fell a couple of cents to about $2.15.
Gold and silver equities rose roughly 1% in the first half hour of trade and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Oil turned lower after the Energy Information Administration increased its forecast for U.S. crude production in 2016.
The U.S. dollar index fell and treasuries rose on worse than expected economic data that reduced expectations for an interest rate hike this year.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P pared early gains after oil erased its overnight advance.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Gap, Vivint Solar, Valeant, Delta Air Lines, and LendingClub.
