Gold dropped throughout most of trade in New York and ended near its last minute low of $1323.80 with a loss of 1.07%. Silver slipped to as low as $18.535 and ended with a loss of 1.75%.
Euro gold fell to about €1176, platinum lost $24.50 to $1076, and copper fell a few cents to about $2.09.
Gold and silver equities fell roughly 7% by midafternoon and remained near that level into the close.

Oil extended almost 3% lower after the Energy Information Administration reported that crude inventories rose 2.5 million barrels, gasoline inventories were unchanged, and distillates rose 100,000 barrels.
The U.S. dollar index edged higher and treasuries held near unchanged ahead of Yellen’s speech in Jackson Hole on Friday.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P fell on poor earrings reports.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Ford, Express, Monsanto, Daimler, Tesla, and Glencore.
