Oil waffled near unchanged on mixed reports over progress towards a possible production freeze, but it ultimately ended almost 1% higher as the U.S. dollar index dove markedly lower and treasuries rose on more poor economic data that reduced expectations for an interest rate hike by the fed.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mixed and ended modestly higher as worries about the economy were offset by hopes for continued easy monetary policy.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Standard Chartered, LEGO, Bayer and Monsanto, Volkswagen, and Enbridge and Spectra Energy.
