The Metals:
Gold gained $4.57 to $1279.47 in Asia before it fell back to $1271.30 in early afternoon New York trade, but it then jumped back higher into the close and ended with a gain of 0.24%. Silver climbed to $17.913 in Asia before it dropped back to $17.753 in early New York trade, but it then bounced back higher into the close and ended with a gain of 0.62%.
Euro gold rose above €1164, platinum remained at $978, and copper climbed a penny to about $2.20.
Gold and silver equities saw slight losses at the open, but they then chopped back higher for most of the rest of trade and ended with over 2.5% gains.

Oil fell almost 4% after this past weekend’s meetings failed to produce any kind of progress towards a production deal.
The U.S. dollar index bounced back from last Friday’s election jitters in early trade, but it then fell back off into the close and with only a slight gain.
Treasuries edged higher on month-end portfolio rebalancing.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P held near unchanged on deal making news.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Lumber Liquidators, Hexagon, TeamHealth, Alibaba, Sony, CenturyLink and Level 3 Communications, and GE and Baker Hughes.
