The Metals:
Gold gained $20.27 to as high as $1307.57 in early afternoon New York trade before it chopped back lower into the close, but it still ended with a gain of 0.71%. Silver surged to as high as $18.736 and ended with a gain of 0.93%.
Euro gold rose to about €1169, platinum lost $1.50 to $989.50, and copper remained at about $2.23.
Gold and silver equities rose over 2% at the open and held near that level for most of the day, but they then sold off in the last 2 hours of trade and ended with almost 2% losses.

Oil extended lower after the Energy Information Administration reported that crude inventories rose 14.4 million barrels, gasoline inventories fell 2.2 million barrels, and distillates fell 1.8 million barrels.
The U.S. dollar index fell and treasuries rose again as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P continued lower on political uncertainty.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Deutsche Bank, Alibaba, Ford, Tesla, GameStop, Time Warner, and Broadcom and Brocade.
