The Metals:
Gold jumped $12.34 to $1188.04 at the open of trade last night before it chopped down to see a loss of $18.23 at $1157.47 by midmorning in New York and then bounced back to $1175.85 in early afternoon trade, but it then drifted back lower into the close and ended with a loss of 0.48%. Silver dipped to $16.501 before it rose to as high as $16.861 and then also fell back off, but it still ended with a gain of 0.36%.
Euro gold fell to about €1087, platinum gained $7 to $934, and copper climbed 7 cents to about $2.69.
Gold and silver equities fell about 3% in the first 45 minutes of trade before they rose to see slight gains in early afternoon trade, but they then edged back lower into the close and ended mixed.

Oil ended slightly higher on continued confidence about OPEC’s production deal.
The U.S. dollar index fell as the euro erased overnight losses and ended with notable gains “after Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi's loss in a referendum over constitutional reform was seen by traders as largely expected and recent euro weakness was seen as having run too far.”
Treasuries held near unchanged while the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P rose on relative calm after Italy’s vote.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Liberty Mutual, Johnson Controls, Chesapeake Energy, and Under Armour.
