Gold gained $11.03 to $1180.13 by midmorning in New York before it drifted back lower into the close, but it still ended with a gain of 0.33%. Silver surged to as high as $17.216 and ended with a gain of 2.45%.
Euro gold fell to about €1090, platinum gained $7 to $940, and copper fell a few cents to about $2.64.
Gold and silver equities rose about 3% my midday before they fell back off in late trade, but they still ended about 1% higher on the day.

Oil dropped over 2% after the Energy Information Administration reported that crude inventories fell 2.4 million barrels, gasoline inventories rose 3.4 million barrels, and distillates rose 2.5 million barrels.
The U.S. dollar index fell and treasuries rose along with the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P
ahead of tomorrow’s ECB meeting.
