The Metals:
Gold popped up to $1134.04 in midmorning New York trade before it fell back to $1127.80 in early afternoon trade and then bounced back higher at times, but it still ended with a loss of 0.25%. Silver slipped to as low as $15.765 and ended with a loss of 0.94%.
Euro gold fell to about €1082, platinum lost $7 to $907, and copper climbed a penny to about $2.50.
Gold and silver equities saw slight gains for most of the morning, but they then fell back off in afternoon trade and ended with modest losses.

Oil rose on signs of steady demand in today’s GDP report.
The U.S. dollar index saw slight gains and treasuries fell on mixed spending and jobs data that sent the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P lower.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Barclays, Volkswagen, and Credit Suisse.
