The Metals:
Gold gained $5.05 to $1187.55 in Asia before it fell to see a slight loss at $1181.07 in London, but it then jumped to as high as $1190.45 in New York and ended with a gain of 0.4%. Silver rose as high as $16.904 and ended with a gain of 1.33%.
Euro gold rose to about €1124, platinum lost $1 to $974, and copper climbed 7 cents to about $2.61.
Gold and silver equities rose roughly 2% in the first 15 minutes of trade before they fell back to about unchanged by early afternoon, but they then edged back higher into the close and ended with about 1% gains.

Oil fell over 2% more on worries about an increase in U.S. production.
The U.S. dollar index held near unchanged ahead of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's first news conference tomorrow.
Treasuries remained slightly lower after today’s $24 billion 3-year note auction sold at a yield of 1.475% with a bid to cover of 2.97.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mixed in anticipation of fourth quarter earnings reports.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Deutsche Bank, Alibaba, SoftBank, and Yahoo.
