Gold gained $16.02 to $1206.92 in Asia before it drifted back lower in London and New York, but it still ended with a gain of 0.38%. Silver rose to as high as $16.982 and ended with a gain of 0.3%.
Euro gold fell to about €1125, platinum gained $5 to $973, and copper climbed 6 cents to about $2.67.
Gold and silver equities rose roughly 3% in the first half hour of trade, but they fell back off for most of the rest of the day and ended near unchanged.

Oil rose on reports of strong demand from China.
The U.S. dollar index fell and treasuries traded mixed as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P dropped on worries about upcoming earnings and economic reports.
