The Metals:
Gold gained $4 to $1240.30 by a little before 9AM EST before it dropped back to $1231.60 in the next few hours of trade, but it then jumped back higher after the release of this afternoon’s fed minutes and ended with a gain of 0.15%. Silver rose to as high as $18.052 and ended with a gain of 0.33%.
Euro gold remained at about €1172, platinum gained $1.50 to $1002.50, and copper dropped a penny to about $2.74.
Gold and silver equities fell about 3% by late morning before they bounced back higher in afternoon trade, but they still ended with almost 2% losses on the day.

Oil fell over 1% after “Qatar’s oil minister said major oil producers outside of OPEC weren’t cutting production as much as they had pledged.”
The U.S. dollar index fell and treasuries turned higher after the release of today’s fed minutes did not clearly indicate an imminent rate hike.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P held near unchanged on mixed earnings reports.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Lloyds, Unilever, DuPont, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac.
