Gold edged down to $1235.80 in Asia, but it then jumped to as high as $1250.90 in late morning New York trade and ended with a gain of 0.86%. Silver rose to as high as $18.217 and ended with a gain of 0.78%.
Euro gold climbed above $1180, platinum gained $4.50 to $1007, and copper dropped 9 cents to about $2.65.
Gold and silver equities rose over 2% at the open before they drifted back lower for most of the rest of trade, but they still ended mostly higher on the day.

Oil gained nearly 2% after the Energy Information Administration reported that crude inventories rose just 600,000 barrels.
The U.S. dollar index fell and treasuries rose again in continued reaction to yesterday’s dovish fed minutes.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P waffled near unchanged on mixed earnings reports.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Tesla, Boston Scientific, Kohl’s, Norwegian Air, Glencore, and Barclays.
