The Metals:
Gold fell $12.60 to $1278.70 in London before it bounced back higher throughout most of the morning in New York, but it then drifted back lower in afternoon trade and ended with a loss of 0.72%. Silver slipped to as low as $16.932 and ended with a loss of 0.23%.
Euro gold closed at €1088, platinum dropped to $967, and copper fell slightly to about $2.91.
Gold and silver equities lost roughly 1% at the open and remained near that level for the rest of the day.
The Economy:
There were no major economic reports today. Tomorrow brings Retail Sales, Import and Export Prices, the Empire State Manufacturing Survey, Business Inventories, the Housing Market Index, and TIC flows.
The Markets:
Oil fell over 2% on easing tensions over North Korea that sent the U.S. dollar index higher and treasuries lower.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P rose roughly 1% at the open and remained near that level for the rest of the day.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Snap, Tesla, and Amazon.
