The Metals:
Gold drifted lower throughout most of world trade and ended near its early afternoon New York low of $1304.80 with a loss of 0.95%. Silver slipped to as low as $17.062 and ended with a loss of 2.22%.
Euro gold fell to about €1095, platinum lost $9.50 to $956.50, and copper climbed a couple of cents to about $2.96.
Gold and silver equities fell about 2% by midmorning and remained near that level into the close.
The Economy:

Tomorrow brings Housing Starts, the Current Account balance, and Import and Export Prices.
The Markets:
Oil traded mostly lower but ended with a small gain on uncertainty about the full implications of past and future hurricanes and related storms.
The U.S. dollar index rose and treasuries fell as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P climbed to new highs on relative geopolitical calm.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Caterpillar, Equifax, Cisco, Northrop Grumman and Orbital, Nvidia, and Intel.
