The Metals:
Gold edged up to $1310.60 in midmorning New York trade before it fell back to $1305.40 in early afternoon action, but it then shot back higher into the close and ended near its late session high of $1311.70 with a gain of 0.21%. Silver rose to as high as $17.326 and ended with a gain of 0.52%.
Euro gold fell to about €1093, platinum lost $3.50 to $953, and copper remained at about $2.96.
Gold and silver equities waffled near unchanged and ended mixed.

U.S. Housing Starts Steady, Permits Rise Ahead of Hurricanes Bloomberg
Tomorrow brings Existing Home Sales and a FOMC Announcement.
The Markets:
Oil fell almost 1% ahead of tomorrow’s inventory report.
The U.S. dollar index dropped on disappointing economic data.
Treasuries held near unchanged before tomorrow’s fed announcement.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P rose to new records on relative geopolitical calm.
Among the big names making news in the market today were T-Mobile and Sprint, Equifax, Volvo, AutoZone, Walgreens, and Toys ‘R’ Us.
