The Metals:
Gold gained $10.20 to $1282.10 by a little after 8AM EST before it fell back to $1270.80 in midmorning New York trade, but it then bounced back higher into the close and ended with a gain of 0.28%. Silver climbed up to $16.885 before it dropped back to $16.554 and then also edged back higher at times, but it still ended with a loss of 0.12%.
Euro gold rose above €1084, platinum gained $2 to $912, and copper remained at about $2.96.
Gold and silver equities traded mostly slightly higher and ended with modest gains.

The Markets:
Oil fell almost 1% on reports that Libya’s largest oil filed has restarted production.
The U.S. dollar index edged lower and treasuries held near unchanged while the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mostly higher on steady economic data that did little to alter the current interest rate outlook.
Among the big names making news in the market today were PepsiCo, Whirlpool, Monsanto, and Tesla.
