The Metals:
Gold gained $3.50 to $1279.40 in London before it dropped back towards unchanged in early New York trade, but it then climbed to a new session high at $1279.70 by late morning and ended with a gain of 0.13%. Silver rose to as high as $17.068 and ended with a gain of 0.83%.
Euro gold rose to about €1095, platinum gained $2.50 to $929, and copper climbed 4 cents to about $3.13.
Gold and silver equities drifted lower in afternoon trade and ended mostly lower on the day.
The Economy:
U.S. runs $63 billion budget deficit in October Reuters
Tomorrow brings PPI.
The Markets:
Oil held near unchanged along with the U.S. dollar index while the Pound dropped “following news reports that several Conservative members of Parliament want Prime Minister Theresa May to resign.”
Treasuries saw slight gains on nervousness about this week’s inflation data.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P erased opening losses and ended modestly higher on mixed earnings reports.
Among the big names making news in the market today were AT&T, Verizon, Home Depot, Qualcomm, and GE.
