The Metals:

 

Gold fell $14.70 to $1270.40 in early afternoon New York trade before it bounced back higher into the close, but it still ended with a loss of 0.81%. Silver slipped to as low as $16.314 and ended with a loss of 0.79%.

 

Euro gold fell to about €1071, platinum gained $1 to $938, and copper remained at about $3.04.

 

Gold and silver equities traded mixed and ended with modest losses.

U.S. jobless claims post second weekly decline  Reuters

 

Tomorrow brings PMI Manufacturing, ISM Manufacturing, and Construction Spending.

 

The Markets:

 

Oil edged higher in mixed trade after OPEC announced an extension to supply cuts.

 

The U.S. dollar index fell along with treasuries as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P climbed to new highs on more progress for the Senate’s tax bill.

 

Among the big names making news in the market today were Barnes & Noble, Sears, Verizon, and Kroger.
