The Metals:

 

Gold edged up to $1246.20 in Asia before it fell back to $1236.50 in late morning New York trade, but it then bounced back higher in afternoon trade and ended with a gain of 0.13%. Silver rose to as high as $15.815 and ended with a gain of 0.06%.

 

Euro gold rose above €1059, platinum lost $8 to $879, and copper climbed a penny to about $3.00.

 

Gold and silver equities traded mostly slightly lower and ended with modest losses.

 

The Economy:

 

U.S. government posts $139 billion deficit in November  Reuters

Small-business sentiment in November powers to the second-highest reading on record  MarketWatch

U.S. producer prices rise strongly, point to firming inflation  Reuters

 

Tomorrow brings CPI and a FOMC Announcement.

 

The Markets:

 

Oil erased early gains and ended 1.5% lower on waning fears over the impact of yesterday’s needed pipeline repair.

 

The U.S. dollar index rose and treasuries fell while the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P waffled near unchanged ahead of tomorrow’s expected rate hike.

 

Among the big names making news in the market today were Bitcoin, Glencore, 3M, Apple, Comcast, Fox, Disney, and PepsiCo.
