The Metals:
Gold gained $7.90 to $1263.70 in late morning New York trade before it drifted back lower into the close, but it still ended with a gain of 0.44%. Silver rose to as high as $16.166 and ended with a gain of 0.5%.
Euro gold rose above €1070, platinum gained $18 to $908, and copper climbed a penny to about $3.13.
Gold and silver equities gained roughly 1.5% by midmorning and remained near that level for the rest of the day.
The Economy:
Home-builder confidence roars to an 18-year high MarketWatch
Tomorrow brings Housing Starts and the Current Account.
The Markets:
Oil edged lower after a worker strike in Nigeria was suspended.
The U.S. dollar index fell with treasuries while the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P climbed to new highs on improving prospects for passage of the tax plan.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Delta, Campbell Soup, CME Group, Penn National, Oracle, Amplify Snack Brands, and Twitter.
