The Metals:
Gold gained $4.90 to $1357.00 in late Asian trade before it drifted back to $1348.60 in London and then bounced back above unchanged in early New York trade ahead of another dip into midday, but it then rallied back higher into the close and ended with a gain of 0.1%. Silver swayed between $16.976 and $16.648 and ended with a gain of 0.06%.
Euro gold fell to about €1082, platinum gained $4 to $999, and copper climbed a penny to about $3.25.
Gold and silver equities fell over 2% by midmorning, but they then bounced back higher in afternoon trade and ended near unchanged on the day.

The Markets:
Oil rose over 1% as the U.S. dollar index fell on concerns about the current account and the budget deficit.
Treasuries saw decent gains as interest rates pared back some of their recent steep advances.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P ended over 1% higher on bargain hunting.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Atari, Bombardier, Antares Pharma, Amag Pharma, Cisco, and Amazon.
