The Metals:
Gold dipped $2.70 to $1290.40 in Asia before it rallied up to $1297.70 in London, but it then drifted back lower in New York and ended with a loss of 0.1%. Silver chopped between $16.37 and $16.542 and ended with a gain of 0.06%.
Euro gold fell to about €1105, platinum lost $2 to $899, and copper climbed 4 cents to about $3.13.
Gold and silver equities saw slight gains at the open, but they then fell back off into the close and ended roughly 1% lower on the day.

The Markets:
Oil fell nearly 2% on uncertainty about OPEC’s future output moves.
The U.S. dollar index dropped as the euro rebounded on waning concerns about Italy that sent treasuries lower and the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P higher.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Apple, Walmart, Ticketfly, Merck, Southwest, and Microsoft.
