Gold gained $2.40 to $1254.20 at about 9AM EST, but it then drifted back lower for most of the rest of trade and ended with a loss of 0.29%. Silver slipped to as low as $15.922 and ended with a loss of 0.31%.
Euro gold fell back under €1080, platinum lost $6.50 to $846.50, and copper fell 3 cents to about $2.95.
Gold and silver equities waffled near unchanged and ended mixed.

Oil added nearly 1% more on continued concerns about more sanctions on Iran.
The U.S. dollar index chopped near unchanged “as traders watched a key European Union summit in Brussels that could shape the future of the eurozone.”
Treasuries edged lower as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P climbed higher in afternoon trade on easing worries about trade disputes with China.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Chipotle, Ticketmaster, Amazon and PillPack, and PayPal.
