Gold gained $10.80 to $1265.90 in London before it drifted back lower in New York, but it still ended with a gain of 0.25%. Silver rose to as high as $16.212 and ended with a gain of 0.50%.
Euro gold climbed above €1071, platinum gained $6 to $848, and copper climbed 4 cents to about $2.86.
Gold and silver equities jumped nearly 2% at the open, but they then chopped back to about unchanged by early afternoon and remained near that level for the rest of the day.
