Gold gained $6.10 to $1196.30 in Asia before it dropped back to $1187.80 by late morning in New York, but it then bounced back higher into the close and ended with a gain of 0.32%. Silver slipped to as low as $14.72 and ended with a gain of 0.07%.
Euro gold fell to about €1032, platinum gained $1.50 to $792, and copper climbed a couple of cents to about $2.69.
Gold and silver equities waffled near unchanged throughout the morning, but they then rallied back higher in late trade and ended with gains of roughly 1%.

Treasuries edged lower as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P climbed higher on positive earnings reports.
