Gold gained $15.30 to $1233.30 in Asia before it chopped back lower in London and New York, but it still ended with a gain of 0.61%. Silver rose to as high as $14.773 and ended with a gain of 0.55%.
Euro gold climbed above €1058, platinum gained $7 to $844, and copper fell 3 cents to about $2.78.
Gold and silver equities rose over 3% in the first 45 minutes of trade before they drifted back lower into the close, but they still ended almost 2% higher on the day.
