The Metals:
Gold gained $5.20 to $1249.50 in London before it chopped back down to $1241.10 by midafternoon in New York, but it then bounced back higher into the close and ended with a loss of 0.1%. Silver rose to as high as $14.719 before it dropped back to $14.516, but it then rallied back higher in late trade and ended with a gain of 0.21%.
Euro gold rose to about €1098, platinum lost $1.50 to $780, and copper climbed 5 cents to about $2.77.
Gold and silver equities waffled near unchanged and ended slightly lower.

The Markets:
Oil pared early gains on worries about a government shutdown.
The U.S. dollar index rose as the euro and pound fell on “reports that colleagues of Prime Minister Theresa May believed they had sufficient numbers to mount a no-confidence vote in her leadership.”
Treasuries held near unchanged while the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P erased notable early gains and ended mostly lower on political uncertainty.
Among the big names making news in the market today were GE, Stich Fix, Google, and Delta.
