The Metals:
Gold gained $10 to a new 6-month high at $1279.00 by late morning in New York before it sold off in afternoon trade, but it ended with a loss of just 0.22%. Silver rose to as high as $15.17 and ended with a gain of 1.76%.
Euro gold rose above €1115, platinum gained $10 to $796, and copper climbed 3 cents to about $2.70.
Gold and silver equities rose over 1% at the open before they fell to see about 2% losses in early afternoon trade, but they then bounced back higher into the close and ended only about 1% lower.

The Markets:
Oil jumped nearly 9% higher on speculation that the almost 50% slide over the past 12 weeks has gone too far.
The U.S. dollar index erased Monday’s notable decline and treasuries fell as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P gained roughly 5% to more than erase Monday’s near 3% losses.
Among the big names making news in the market today were SolarMax Technology, Amazon, Tesla, and Morgan Stanley.
